Policy Roundtable on Australia’s migrant healthcare workforce

Yesterday we hosted a Policy Roundtable on the topic of 'Migration, mobility and Australia's healthcare workforce: towards a people-centred approach.' Policymakers, academics, settlement practitioners, healthcare workers, employers (and more) came together to discuss why a more people-centred approach to healthcare worker migration is needed, and how we might get there.

Maria Dimopoulos from the Settlement Council of Australia addressing the audience.

The dynamic discussions were framed by a warm welcome address by Maria Dimopoulos from Settlement Council of Australia, and a very well-received keynote on 'Relational approaches in economies and policies' by Professor Brendan McCormack from the Faculty of Medicine and Health at The University of Sydney and the Sydney Policy Lab.

The day was orchestrated by Sydney Centre for Healthy Societies researchers, Leah Williams Veazey and Sasha Block. In panel discussions and workshop sessions, participants reflected on the draft report that Leah & Sasha had prepared, contributing their expert perspectives and collaborating on recommendations for change. That report will now be finalised and circulated. If you'd like to receive a copy, please get in touch with Leah Williams Veazey.

Thanks to everyone who came along - in the room and on zoom - and participated so wholeheartedly.
